Jeremy Daniel Battier, August 9, 2015, age 34.

Beloved husband of Dr. Shawna Steele Battier, D.D.S. Dear son of Sandee and Eddie Battier. Loving brother of Stephanie Gardner (Ed), Todd D. Glandt, Shane C. Battier (Heidi) and Ashley D. Battier. Uncle of Jada, Emma, Allyson, Zeke and Eloise.

Jeremy was born in Rochester Hills, Michigan in 1981. He attended Harlan Elementary and Derby Middle School in Birmingham, before attending Detroit Country Day School from 7th through 12th grades. While at DCDS, Jeremy was a 4-year Varsity letter winner in both football and basketball, serving as a captain of both teams and earning All-State honors in multiple years. He was also very active in student government and graduated Magna Cum Laude. His commitment to both academics and athletics earned him a full scholarship to Duke University, where he played football. He graduated in 2004 with a degree in Sociology. Jeremy went on to also earn a Master of Business Administration from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin in 2011.

Professionally, Jeremy began his career as a sales executive with Gartner, Inc. and went on to become vice president of business development for Michigan Metal Transporters, Inc. After earning his MBA, Jeremy was a marketing executive for Harrah's and Horseshoe Casinos in New Orleans and Cincinnati. He was also a member of the Michigan Minority Business Development Council and the Transportation Club of Detroit.

After meeting at Duke, Jeremy reconnected with Shawna Steele years later, and the two were married on October 10, 2010. Together they opened Seven Star Dental in Cincinnati in 2013. Jeremy was serving as president of Seven Star at the time of his death.

Jeremy's family and friends revered him for his kindness and drive, describing him as having a personality that was larger than life. He was a constant source of laughter and entertainment, and had the gift of making anyone he came into contact with feel appreciated and special. He balanced his athletic achievements and abilities with his brainy side, enjoying statistical analysis and World of Warcraft in his spare time. Jeremy was also a fantastic cook, preparing nightly meals to enjoy with his wife.

Jeremy left his mark in the many areas of the country he lived, from Detroit to Durham, to Austin, New Orleans and Cincinnati. But wherever his work or studies took him, he always remembered where his home was. Jeremy was a loving son to Sandee and Ed, who always enjoyed sharing in his many successes over the years. Jeremy was a loving younger brother to Stephanie, Todd and Shane. And he adored his little sister Ashley. His nieces and nephew knew him to be a fun and carefree uncle. He was a wonderful and supportive husband to Shawna, who was fortunate to spend the last 5 happy years by his side. He will be missed dearly by all those he loved, and all of those who were fortunate enough to be touched by his big smile and kind heart throughout his life.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 13, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy (between Maple and Big Beaver), 248-362-2500.
The Funeral Service will be on Friday, August 14 - 11 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Master, 3333 Coolidge Hwy, Troy.

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio (Deb Dixon) -- “If this turns out to be heroin, then it’s another heroin story that the drug took another life and destroyed another family,” said Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco about drugs found in a hotel room with the body of Jeremy Battier. Battier, a successful businessman and the former director of marketing at Horseshoe Casino, was currently the president of his wife’s upscale dental practice downtown called Seven Star Dental. Battier went to Duke University where he got a degree in business and played football. Did he lose it all to heroin? “We’re investigating it as a heroin-involved overdose death,” said Lt. Tom Fallon with Norwood Police Department, and commander of the Hamilton County Heroin Coalition Task Force. The task force will work back from Battier’s death to try and find the drug dealer. Tests were being done on drugs found in the hotel room at 8 and Linn Street. Dr. Sammarco said she would not be surprised if one of the drugs being tested was heroin. There were also two needles and Battier’s iPad. He had researched how to use heroin. Lt. Fallon said, “You try it once, you could die, because you don’t know what they’re mixing it with, fentanyl or lord knows. First time could be your last time.” Fentanyl is a drug used for treatment of severe pain. There have been many overdoses because of the mixture of fentanyl with heroin in a powdered form. Fentanyl is more potent than morphine. Dr. Sammarco said, “He was a very intelligent, motivated hardworking person. There is no poster child for heroin use.” There were 177 overdose deaths in Hamilton County last year. Jeremy Battier was the brother of former NBA player Shane Battier, who helped the Miami Heat win two NBA championships in 2012 and 2013. Love your Kool Smiles Dental Family. Tanara B. Rouzan - 3 months ago Mr. & Mrs. Battier - Our family extends our sincere condolences to you and to your family at the tragic loss of Jeremy. Our son and Jeremy worked together at First TN and Jeremy; we had many opportunities to visit with Jeremy at our house. In fact, he was here one year for his birthday and I remember him telling us about his family - with that twinkle in his eye that told me he was much loved by you and that he loved his whole family with his whole heart. I came home one night to find the boys clowning around in the pool and, of course, they had to demonstrate a new move for me. Jeremy was such a respectful and hardworking guy who was raised to be a gentleman. I want you to know how much we enjoyed spending time with him. I pray that in the days ahead you can remember what a wonderful young man you raised and what joy he brought to others and that this can bring you some solace in your grief.Sincerely, The D'Addabbo Family, Germantown, TN Sarah D'Addabbo - 3 months ago Not a day goes by that I don't think of Jeremy and Shawna.. My heart has been super heavy since I heard the news late on Sunday. I will always be apart of the Seven Star Team and will always remember Jeremy as such an outgoing guy. He always had me laughing at God knows what. He was always coming up with the craziest ways for us to get our bonus. He was amazing at numbers ( which I still don't understand and I work the front desk at my new office ) lol. I will always miss that goofy laugh of his.. Forever in my heart JB. Tori Sabo Tori Sabo - 3 months ago I had the pleasure of working with Jeremy in New Orleans. His smile big... His personality was bigger... But, his appreciation for the legends in the hip hop game was endless. We agreed to disagree (when it came to work matters), but hip hop would always bring us back to a respectable place filled with make-shift rap battles. Gone, but not forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family. God speed. Maria A Newman Carrere - 3 months ago I went to school with Jeremy a long time ago, back in Birmingham. He was a smart, kind, radiant person then, and I'm sure he remained so. My heart breaks for his wife and family. I wish you all peace and strength as you endure this agony. And peace to you, Jeremy.
