Born April 29, 1947
Passed March 1, 2016
The former mayor of the Mingo County town of Kermit passed away on Tuesday.
Johnny Linville, 68 years old, had been battling health problems the past few months.
Last year Linville resigned as mayor, however he remained on the city council for the town he loved and lived in for so many years.
Linville served as mayor for 17 years and also on the town council.
The Little League Field at East Kermit was named after Linville. He fought hard to raise funds to build the baseball field, which is located beside Kermit Pre K8 school.
Linville was also instrumental in getting the town a new water treatment plant.
For many years Linville operated a sign shop in Kermit.
He was also well-known for helping keep the town litter free and not only picked up trash himself, but also hired people to pick it up to help keep the town clean.
Dad absolutely loved his hometown of Kermit and was very proud to serve the community for so long, said his daughter Rhonda Gail (Linville) Muncy Dad was my best friend.
Its with sadness, to know he had to leave us, now and even when he had to step down as mayor for health reasons about a year ago, said Anna Mae Sartin Wellman, a longtime member of the Kermit Town Council. I have enjoyed serving as council member with him for many years. Because I got the chance to really know how much he loved serving the town of Kermit to achieve their needs. He has been missed during his recent sickness. I am asking for Gods blessings on his lovely family.
Linville is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Dorothy Spaulding Linville of Kermit.
