Carol Joyce âÂÂJeanâ Mock Persinger, 84 of Bluefield, WV died Monday March 28, 2016 at her home following a long illness.
Born April 27, 1931 in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Zina P. and Virgie Marie Ellison Mock.
She married the late William D. Persinger in 1948 and they were blessed with three children, William D. Persinger, Jr., Lisa Susan Persinger and Lori Persinger Lovern.
Carol was a 1948 graduate of Hinton High School and was valedictorian of her class. After graduating she was employed by Rayon Corporation and later Hercules Powder Company both in Covington, Virginia and also worked for Hercules in Wilmington, Delaware. In 1974, she and her late husband purchased Country Roads Store at Pence Springs and operated it for several years. After retirement, she moved to Keatley Springs in Summers County and cared for her parents and her beloved grandchildren, Austin and Amber. Following BillâÂÂs death she moved to Bluewell to be near her daughter and helped care for her grandchildren, Ian and Molly. She remained there for the rest of her life. Carol enjoyed gardening and her family, being particularly involved with family genealogy. She had a distinct love for her nieces and nephews and will be missed by not only by them, but by all her knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Persinger in 1994, her son, William D. Persinger, Jr. in 1987 and a daughter, Dr. Lisa Susan Persinger in 1994. Also preceded by four brothers, one in infancy along with Robert, Donald and Billy Mock and five sisters, Nellie Anderson, Eleanor Wiseman, Peggy Garrett, Helen Marie Hedrick and Audrey Fitzgerald.
Survivors include a daughter, Lori L. Lovern and husband Jon of Bluewell. Five grandchildren, Michael Persinger of California, Austin Persinger & wife Billie and Amber Stover & husband Jason, both of Hinton, Ian Lovern of Huntington and Molly Lovern of Shepherdstown. Three great grandchildren, Maggie and Ava Stover and Miles Persinger. Former daughter-in-law, Diana Price of Hinton, sisters-in-law, Helen Mock of Hilldale, Margie Mock of Hinton and Dorothy Mock of Florida. Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday April 2, 2016 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Benny Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Upland Cemetery, Upland, WV. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
