JASPER, Florida
Vernon H. McCoy, age 77, of Jasper, Florida, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016, at the home of his son following a brief illness.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Wayfare Cemetery (Cow Creek) in Echols County, Georgia.
The family will receive friends Tuesday at Harry T. Reid Funeral Home between 10-11 a.m. with procession from the funeral home to the cemetery for the service.
Vernon was born January 15, 1939, at Williamson, W.Va., a son of the late George Clarence and Ida Hatfield McCoy.
He was a man that believed in fighting for his country and he did so for many years in the United States Air Force. It was there that he was given the opportunity to work as an aerospace technician. His training in the Air Force later led him to work as an electrician and in air conditioning maintenance. Vernon lived in the Clearwater/Tampa area for a number of years before moving back to Hamilton County 15 years ago where he owned and operated McCoy Air Inc. and was blessed to be able to spend time with his three sons and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by two brothers, Lonnie McCoy and Larry McCoy, and a sister, Linda McCoy Lott.
Survivors include three sons and daughters~in~law: Randy and Melody McCoy, Richie and Doreen McCoy and Sammy and Erica McCoy, all of Jasper; three brothers and sisters~in~law: George Jr. and Jane McCoy of, Lexington, S.C., Frank and Anita McCoy of Burnwell, Ky., and David and Diana McCoy of Richmond, Ky.; two sisters and brothers~in~law:, Mildred and Winston Bass of Live Oak, Fla., and Martha and Danny Harvel of Turkey Creek, Ky. Also surviving is the mother of his children, Hazel McCoy. Though years separated them he always appreciated the mother she was to his sons.
Vernons grandchildren; one granddaughter; Dana McCoy Hamlin and eight grandsons will honor their Grandpa as his pallbearers: Brandon McCoy, Kyle McCoy, Justin McCoy, Josh McCoy, Tyler Morgan, Chaise McCoy, Cody McCoy, and Colt McCoy. He also had seven great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by several loving nieces, nephews, cousins, two aunts and an uncle, and many friends.
Vernon was a proud soldier, and he knew there was still much to be done.
