John Finn Towles Jr., 90, of went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 21, 2016, at ARH Skilled Nursing Facility in South Williamson, Ky.
Born July 22, 1925, at Huddy, Ky., he was a son of the late John Finn and Lina Hairston Towles.
John graduated from Liberty High School; served in the United States Navy during World War II; was a former employee of Appalachian Regional Healthcare; worked at Island Creek Coal Company until he retired, and worked at Community Trust Bank until he was 85 years old.
He was a member of Logan Street First Baptist Church where he served as a member on the Trustee Board and Treasurer of the Building Fund. He was a member of the Williamson Crown Lodge No. 16 F&AM
He leaves cherished memories to his children: sons, John (Faye) Towles III of Orlando, Fla., Michael (Mako) Towles of Dixon, Calif., and Carnell Ramsey of Wilksburg, Penn., and daughters, Ruth (Everett) Curry of San Bernardino, Calif., Dawnita (Andy) Anderson of Orlando, Audrey (Vernon) Murrell and Maria Towles, both of Lexington, Ky., Carolyn Slone of Williamson, and Renata Towles of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Juanita Hooks of Williamson; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special nieces, Gladys Baker and Nancy Jackson; a special nephew, Gary Baker; special caregivers, Ronnie Childress and Tony Hambrick; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Towles; four brothers: Edward, Henry, Harry and Dr. Jeff Towles, and two sisters: Francis Philyaw and Nancy Mills.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29th, at Logan Street First Baptist Church. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 30th, at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher, W.Va., with Military Graveside Rites.
