William Alfred Al Johnson
PLAINVILLE, CONNECTICUT
William Alfred Al Johnson, 101, of Plainville, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 18, 2016, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. He is now reunited with his loving wife of 70 years, Bertha Johnson, who predeceased him in 2010.
Al was born in Plainville, Connecticut, on March 28, 1915, son to the late Clifton and Ceatter (Martin) Johnson. He was a former member of the Redeemers AME Zion Methodist Church in Plainville and then became affiliated with the Church of the Bible in Plainville. Al was a member of the Farmington Valley Choral Society and of all tunes, he loved classical music. He spent many years gardening with his wife by his side providing fresh produce for their family and neighbors. A cancer survivor himself, Al was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for many years receiving state~level recognition for his continuous support. He also volunteered his time at the voting polls for many years. Al spent the majority of his working years in the metal finishing industry and was employed by Plainville Plating Company, Inc., the company he retired from. In addition, Al was a member of the Order of the Masonic Lodge and in his former years served tables at the Farmington Country Club.
Al is survived by his son, Gary Johnson and Garys wife, Emelita, of Los Angeles, Calif.; his grandchildren, Derek T. Johnson, Sr., and Dereks wife, Arnetta, of Ariz., and Shonagh R. Bass, of California; his great~grandchildren, Essence Beachum, Ebony Johnson, and Derek T. Johnson, Jr.; his nieces and nephews, Gail Williams, Alison Johnson, Rodney Johnson, Lisa Johnson, Gordon Mayers, Francis Hobson, MD, Norene Robinson, Anita Baldwin, Charlyne Brooks, and John A. Johnson, Jr. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his siblings, Clifton Levester Johnson, Mary Louise Mayers, Ethel Williams, Ceatter Ernestine Johnson, and John A. Johnson, Sr.
Funeral services in honor of Als life were held on Tuesday, July 26, at the Church of the Bible, 160 W. Main St., Plainville. Burial was held in West Cemetery, Plainville. For online condolences or further information, please visit www.Bailey-FuneralHome.com.
