Laurence Granbow Wolf
Laurence Granbow Wolf (September 4, 1921 - October 22, 2016) professor emeritus in geography at the University of Cincinnati passed away on at the age of 95. Born and raised in New York, New York, Prof. Wolf served in the army from 1943-46, earned his BS from City College of New York, MA from Teachers College, Columbia University, and PhD from Syracuse University. He was a professor at the University of Cincinnati for 37 years.
Prof. Wolfâs professional affiliations include the Association of American Geographers, who honored him with their 2010 AAG Enhancing Diversity Award; National Council of Geography Teachers; American Geographical Society of New York; American Political Science Association; Sigma Xi; Gamma Theta Upsilon; and Phi Delta Kappa. A published author and prolific writer, Prof. Wolf was a humanist and gay political activist unafraid to challenge and explore all areas of thought. He was publisher and editor of Transition, a quarterly journal of the socially and ecologically responsible geographers (SERGE), helped to found and write for three local publications: Gaybeat, To The Roots, and Nouveau Midwest, and served as president of the UC Lesbian/Gay Academic Union. He is survived by his three sons, Steve Wolf (Ursula), Allen Leung-Wolf (Elaine), Eric Wolf (Laura), three grandsons, two granddaughters, and one great-grandchild .
A celebration of life will be held at St. Johns Unitarian Universalist Church, 320 Resor Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45220 on December 11, 2016 at 2:00pm.
