Redmond Turner R. T. Price, Jr., 93, of Fairview Addition, Williamson, West Virginia, passed away on April 10, 2018, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky.
Born October 23, 1924, at Greasy Creek, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Redmond Turner Price, Sr. and Myrtle Osborne Price.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a beloved grandson, Shaun Mounts Price; and a brother, Paul Price, Sr.
R.T. was raised and educated in the Mingo County public schools system, and following his wartime service, he attended Duke University.
R.T. entered military service immediately after graduating from Williamson High School in 1943. He served two years in the European Theater of Operations during World War II, and was wounded twice in the Italian campaign, for which he was awarded two Purple Hearts.
He entered business in 1948 as a partner with his father, the late R. T. Price, Sr., and his brother, Paul Price, Sr., in Price Motor Company, a Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Cadillac dealership founded by his father in 1925. The business operated continuously until closing in 1990. R. T. was a graduate of the Chevrolet Post Graduate School of Merchandising and Management conducted by General Motors Institute in Detroit, Michigan.
R.T.s contributions to his community are numerous. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Williamson since 1936. He was a past chairman of the Board of Deacons, past chairman of the Christian Board of Education, and he was a past Sunday School Superintendent. He and his wife, Gloris, were the founders and leaders of the Dynamic Adult Ministries, and R. T. also took an active role in the church Christmas plays, playing one character or another to the delight of his audiences.
He was a former president of the Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce, a former president of the United Way, former campaign chairman of the United Way, member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Williamson, member of the Mingo County Airport Authority, a two-time member of the Mingo County Board of Education, and he was a former Jury Commissioner of Mingo County. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans. He was an active member of the Williamson Kiwanis Club for 61 years.
R.T. selflessly devoted himself to his faith, his family, his business, and his community. He freely and happily gave of his time and resources. While he will be sorely missed, he will also be lovingly remembered always.
R.T. is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Gloris Dotson Price; son, David (Enga) Price of Goody, Kentucky; daughter, Lisa Price of Lexington, Kentucky; granddaughter, Jade Ann (Robert) Johnson of Lexington, Kentucky; grandson, Shannon Mounts Price of Johns Island, South Carolina; great-granddaughters, Tyler, Averly, and Rylie Johnson, all of Lexington, Kentucky. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Friday, April 13, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Williamson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the church. Pastor Jarrod Belcher will officiate. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Interment is in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV. Members of the First Baptist Church Board of Deacons will serve as pallbearers. Military rites will be presented by the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 141, Belfry, KY.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 508 Harvey Street, Williamson, WV 25661.
