Well known local resident ABE HYMORE passed away Sept. 22, 2018. Abes father, William, had come to the United States from a small town in eastern Lebanon via Montreal and Detroit in 1900. When he arrived in Williamson, W.Va., around 1915, he worked in the dry-goods business and in 1921 purchased part interest in the Coca Cola plant, later selling that interest and owning a drygoods and clothing store on Pike Street before becoming a packpeddler. William later got the distributorship for the Huntington Herald-Dispatch and eventually went on to make his famous chili and hot dogs at the Brunswick before returning to his native land in 1956. Abe was born in Scott, Ohio, on February 24, 1928, to William and his wife, Sophia. His parents divorced at the age of five, setting the groundwork for a life of independence and hard work. As a youth he and his brother, Joe, would meet the 4 a.m. train to pick up newspapers and deliver them to all parts of Williamson, W.Va., and South Williamson, W.Va., before 7 a.m. in order to get home in time for school. The two young men used their shoe shine boxes to earn money so they could attend movies at the local theaters. While in school he was active in Boy Scouts, achieving the highest level, Eagle Scout, as well as becoming a scout master. He played football for Williamson High School and was also Drum Major in the band prior to his graduation in 1946 and his marriage in 1948 to Mary Riddle, a descendant of the multi-generational Riddle and Varney families. For years Abe managed the Tug River Paint and Wallpaper company, assisting customers with their selections of colors and patterns and sharing his knowledge of the painting industry, while also working part time at local clothing and shoe stores. He was very active in the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches as well as the National Guard for 30 years, which allowed him to serve his country and fulfill his natural born ability to lead, rising to the rank of Sergeant Major prior to his retirement. After his departure from the paint and wallpaper business, he went to work for Metropolitan Insurance where he once again became a leader and repeatedly won titles as Outstanding Sales Representative and Senior Sales Consultant. Abe truly loved people and his time with Metropolitan afforded him the opportunity to not sell, but to serve a need for the families he sincerely cared about in the area. He devoted 30 years to that profession and retired not long after his second open heart surgery. Like his namesake of several religious denominations, Abraham played an outstanding role as an example of faith in his life. His strong faith in God and principle of integrity instilled by his father were the foundation for his never-ending desire to do the right thing for others. Although he excelled at everything he reached for, he was very adamant that there be no praises for him as a man. Nevertheless, words don't do justice to the attributes and achievements of this amazing man. There was no more devoted husband and father than Abe. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and those whose lives crossed his path. The impression he made won't be easily forgotten. He was predeceased by his father, mother and brother and is survived by his wife, Mary, sons, Dane of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Jerel of Berea, Kentucky, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, as well as countless relatives across the country. Per his wishes there will be no visitation nor service. Interment is scheduled for Monday, October 1, 1 p.m., at Mountain View Memorial Park, 119 North Mt. View Drive, Huddy, Ky. Arrangements are being handled by Weaver Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideons International, PO Box 503, Belfry, KY 41514-0129, or to First United Methodist Church, 101 West 2nd Avenue, Williamson, WV 25661.
