Ollie Mae Jones, 93, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. She passed away in the comfort of her home where she was surrounded by her loving family.

Born May 31, 1927, in Williamson, WV. Ollie was a daughter of the late Nicholas Blackburn and Mayme Bevins Blackburn.

In addition to her parents Ollie was preceded in death by her husband, Therman Boxhead Jones whom she married on December 21, 1944; a brother, Ronnie Joe Blackburn and a sister, Norma Ruth Maynard. A longtime resident of Williamson, Ollie was a member of the East Williamson Baptist Church. She deeply loved her church family and she was faithful in attendance and actively participated in the life of the church and its ministries.

Ollie’s kind and loving spirit made her a perfect fit as a kindergarten aide. She retired from the Mingo County Board of Education following 13 years of devoted service. She worked at West Williamson Elementary School and later at Cinderella Elementary.

In retirement, when she was not busy with church activities, she enjoyed gardening and cooking. She enjoyed and looked forward to spending time with her friends, family, and grandchildren; whether enjoying a cup of coffee at the Dairy Queen or listening to bluegrass bands, Ollie enjoyed her friends. She was a loving and compassionate friend to so many people who enriched her life and made her life’s journey so very enjoyable.

Ollie will be dearly missed by her children, Brenda Jones of Ocean City, MD, Dru Simpkins, and her husband, Larry Simpkins of Williamson, WV and Todd Jones, and his wife, Susan Jones of Bunker Hill, WV. Ollie especially loved her role as Granny and GG-Great Granny, and will forever be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Erica Pulver, her husband, Cory, and daughter Caroline, of Farmington, CT, Becky McPherson, her husband, Jeff, and daughters Ellie and Maddie, of Andover, KS, Samuel Simpkins of Wilmington, NC, Kaleb Jones and his wife, Lee, of Salisbury, MD and Katie O’Malley and her husband, Kevin of Berlin, MD. She will also be missed by her nieces, great nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved church family.

Visitation is from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 5, 2020, at the East Williamson Baptist Church. The funeral service will immediately follow visitation, beginning at 2:00 pm. Reverend Caleb Horn will officiate.

Interment is in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV. Ollies grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Dignity Hospice of Southern West Virginia, 557 Main Street, Chapmanville, WV 25508. Ollie's family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Dignity Hospice nurses and staff for their professional, kind and compassionate care.
