Doyle W. Hensley, age 96, a permanent resident of Albuquerque since 1974, passed away on July 15, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
Doyle is survived by his wife of 71 years, Claire Elaine Hensley (Rose), his children, Doyle W. Hensley II (Georgia), Pamela E. Spriet (Clay) and Richard M. Hensley, grandchildren, Jill, Erica, Clayton and Katrina, great-grandchildren, Shelby, Brooke, Penny, Connor and Paige, great-great-granddaughter, River Rose, his brother, James Hensley and nephew, Mark Hensley (Donna).
Doyle was born in Elmwood, Tennessee and spent the first 17 years of his life farming tobacco, corn and other crops.
Shortly after turning 17, he joined the United States Navy on July 16, 1942, choosing to serve his country around the world for the next 30 years. His Navy career included service in the Pacific Theater during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Having enlisted as an E1 in 1942, he went on to retire as an O4, Lieutenant Commander on July 1, 1972.
After retiring from the US Navy, he worked for 14 years as the Security Manager for 1st Interstate Bank. Doyle's affiliations with the Navy included being a Life Member of the Navy Fleet Reserve and the Association of Naval Aviation Ordnance.
Doyle was also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Ballut Abyad Shrine and its Legion of Honor, doing Flag Pageants throughout the Southwest.
Doyle was the definition of a good man. Doyle enjoyed helping people and spending time with his friends. Enjoying the outdoors, he loved hunting, fishing, gardening and bird watching.
But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and his pet Dachshunds.
Doyle believed in God, Country and Family and lived that belief every day of his life. An American- Patriot and member of the Greatest Generation, he will be greatly missed but always remembered.
Services will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at French - Lomas. Interment will take place following the services at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30.
Should friends desire, make memorial contributions in lieu of flowers, to the Ballut Abyad Shrine (Transportation Fund) located at 6600 Zuni Road SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
