Howard Starman Horne Born in Detroit, MI on August 29, 1931, and died peacefully at home in Tucson, AZ on July 1, 2013.
Survived by his first wife, Shirley, of Gilbert, AZ and their three children: Faith Robin Buchin (Peter) of Tucson, AZ; Dr. Dale Scott Horne (Rachel) of Cincinnati, OH; Tammy Lynne Frias (Eddie) of Santa Ana, CA; and his wife of 40 years, Michelle, and their son, Justin Blake Horne (Tina) of Chandler, AZ; six grandchildren, Kimberly, Jason, Sarah, Hannah, Mikayla and Charlotte; and great-grand son, Will.
Howard was educated at Central and Cass Tech in Detroit, then joined the Navy in the Medical Corps. He returned to Michigan to continue his education and marry his first wife. He then ventured to Arizona to mine uranium. He quickly realized that the real value was the land itself and embarked on a successful career in real estate and land investments and formed Howard S. Horne and Associates, an investment and realty company. After selling general insurance for years, he started the division AeroSurance, an aviation insurance company, which he ran with his wife Michelle until late 2011. Both Howard and Michelle were private pilots and, on one of their more memorable trips, explored the Caribbean during a seven week adventure. To enjoy the coral reefs and spectacular sea life they both became certified scuba divers. He was most proud of being an early member of the Pima County Sheriffs Department Aero Squadron and teaching several real estate law and finance courses at the University of Arizona. He loved his family and had stories to tell everyone about their many accomplishments. He extensively researched his genealogy and located numerous pictures of family members from many generations. He will be fondly remembered by many friends, fellow Realtors and pilots, former employees who still remain good friends, and many people he helped along the way. He will be deeply missed by his loving family. Services will be Friday, July 5, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile. Interment Congregation Anshei Israel Section of Evergreen Cemetery. To leave condolences visit www.evergreenmortuary-cemetery.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or TMC Hospice.
