Mary Lou Justice, 97, of Chattaroy, WV, passed away January 10, 2023, at the Pikeville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Pikeville, KY, following a brief illness.
Born December 1, 1925, in Nolan, WV, she was a daughter and the youngest child of the late Robert Lee Ward and Victoria Sammons Ward.
In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leonard Justice, an infant grandson, Evan Fought, five brothers, Robert Lee Ward, Jr., Charles Ray Ward, Benjamin Franklin Ward, Harry C. Ward and Gene Conley Ward, and five sisters, Myrtle Ruth Litton, Beatrice Ilene Schroth, Evelyn Jeanette Bivens, Alice Marie Ward and Geneva Fultz.
The youngest of eleven children, Mary Lou was the last surviving child of Robert and Victoria Ward. She and her siblings were raised in the community of Nolan where she also grew up alongside her future husband, Leonard Justice. Mary Lou and Leonard were both employees of Appalachian Power Company where Mary Lou worked as a draftsman. She later left the workforce as a draftsman to become a fulltime domestic engineer in her own home. Mary Lou was the absolute essence of the quintessential homemaker. Her home was always immaculately clean and perfectly in order. She was a woman of action. The sun did not set on a single day in her life that she had not made the very most of every minute. She was constantly in motion, caring for her husband, her children and her home. She was a wonderful hostess and being a guest in her home was a delight. As her children grew, she gladly welcomed their friends into the home and sleepovers were the best because they always involved good food and special treats by Mary Lou. She was such a loving individual and being in her presence was a joy. As her beloved grandchildren came into her life, she gave to them the same measure of love and devotion that she had given to her children. She was so proud of her grandchildren, and they gave her so much joy and happiness. She was also blessed to love and hold in her arms her great granddaughter, Sophia Fought.
Mary Lou was physically fit throughout her life. Tall and slender, she was beautifully elegant, stylish and graceful. Refined in mannerisms, she carried herself with the dignity of a queen. She was intellectually quick, very sharp and incredibly witty. Wit and humor were her trade marks. Her wonderful disposition and positive outlook on life no doubt served her well as she remained very independent and lived alone in her home without assistance well into her 90s, and it was with the assistance of her devoted family and caregivers that she lived in peace, and with dignity, in the comfort of her own home until the end of her 97 years, one month and ten days of life here on earth. She is sorely missed and lovingly remembered.
Mary Lou was a devoted member of Grace Baptist Temple.
Mary Lou is survived by two beloved children, Leonard Wood Justice, Jr. and his wife, Margie Mullins Justice of Williamson, WV and Leslie Jean Justice Fought and her husband, Paul Russell Rusty Fought of Happy Valley, South Williamson, KY, four grandchildren, Garrett Wayne Fought and his wife, Lindsey Staten Fought, Matthew Leonard (Kayleigh Booth) Fought, Robert Lowell Justice and Brice Ward Justice and his wife, Samantha Justice, a great-granddaughter, Sophia Nicole Fought, a host of nieces and nephews including her very special niece, Bridget Fultz Call and her son, Heath Michael Call and her devoted nephew, Howard Butch Bivens and his wife, Dee, and their daughter, Amy, all of whom were very close to Mary Lou. She is also survived by her loving, faithful and considerate friend, John Smith, whom much to her delight kept in touch by calling every weekend.
Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, January 13, 2023, at 12 o'clock noon, at the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV with Howard Bivens presiding.
Pallbearers include Heath Call, Garrett Fought, Matthew Fought, Rusty Fought, Leonard Justice and John Smith.
