Nancy Miller Chapman, 78, of Nolan, passed away on November 25, 2014, at her residence. One of nine children, she was born on June 13, 1936, in Wise, VA, a daughter of the late Eddie and Zetta Dotson Miller. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Mitchel Chapman; two sisters, Mary Francis Miller and Margie Miller; a brother, Dennis Miller; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Shayde and Golda Cook Chapman; a great-granddaughter, Alexis Paige Williams and a son-in-law, Carl Bailes. Nancy was a 1953 graduate of JJ Kelly High School where she was a member of the girls basketball team. She graduated magna cum laude in 1975 from Pikeville College and received a master’s degree in elementary education in 1984 from Marshall University. She taught school in the Mingo County school system for 36 years. She taught at Main Building Grade, Nolan Grade, Riverside Elementary and Delbarton Elementary. She was passionate about teaching children about life. She was a friend to everyone and never met a stranger. Nancy loved to sew. Her love of sewing led to making quilts along with her late husband, Mitchel. Working together they made quilts that they gave as gifts to family members and friends. Nancy dedicated her life to caring for her family and friends. She especially enjoyed all the grandchildren. She was truly a mother of all mothers. She also loved the home place at Nolan and was very proud of it. She was a member of the Nolan Freewill Baptist Church where she taught a Sunday morning class for the children of the church. Nancy is survived by three children, Jeffery (Sheila) Chapman of Mouthcard, KY, Rhonda Chapman Bailes of Fairmont and Shayde (Patty) Chapman of Nolan; eight grandchildren, Jill Chapman, Jessica (Michael Todd Marcum) Chapman, Jason Brown, Brandon Brown, Jaimie (Matt) Good, Chelsea (Eddie) Gilliam, Tina (Bruce) Wellman and Lisa Teeters; nine great grandchildren, Madison Varney, Mitchel Chapman, Gregory Williams, Charlotte Gilliam, Shelby Good, Justin Wellman, Katie Wellman, Dylan Wellman, Alissa Teeters; two great-great grandchildren, Raylin Wellman and Raylan Wellman; her siblings, Mona (Freddy) Elkins, Wise , VA, Eddie Sue (Steven) Kriesick, Richmond, VA, Kenneth (Judy) Miller, Norton, VA, Kathy (Jim) Allen, Auburn, WA and Rebecca Stapleton of Nolan; her second family, the Chapman’s: sisters, Polly Jane Allen (Johnny Ray) Davis, Nolan, Elizabeth (John) Johnson, Columbus, OH, Joy (Bill) Blackburn, Bellville, MI and Shaydie (Ronnie) Dotson of Columbus, OH; a special name sake niece, Nancy Blackburn of Bellville, MI; two special nephews, Vernie B. Blackburn, Belleville, MI; Randy Lee Horn, Columbus, OH and Toby Allen of Nolan and a host of loving nieces and nephews and dear friends. Visitation is from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Friday evening, November 28, 2014, at Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson. The funeral service is at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 29, 2014, at the Nolan Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverends Ray Taylor and Earl White officiating. Interment is in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV. Active pallbearers include Brandon Brown, Jason Brown, Vernie B. Blackburn, Randy Horn, Eddie Elkins, Bobby Ray Mcfall, Toby Allen, Nicholas Allen, Evan Allen and Mitchell Allen Horn. Honorary pallbearers are Freddie Elkins, Jim Allen, Ronnie Dotson, John Johnson, Johnny Ray Davis and Bill Blackburn.
