Mary Doka Sayers, 90, of Williamson, W.Va., passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2014, at the Pikeville Medical Center.

Born August 7, 1924, in Beauty, Ky, she was a daughter of the late Steven and Julia Doka. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, the late Charles D. Sayers, a former president of the National Bank of Commerce of Williamson; and eight brothers and sisters, Velma, Alec, Steve, Dan, Andy, Julia, Elizabeth and Rose.

A homemaker throughout her life, Mary was actively involved in the church, social and civic activities of the Williamson community until her health began to decline. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Williamson and was very involved with the church women and the women's circles. She was the longtime treasurer of the Williamson Wildwood Garden Club and she was a longtime member of the Williamson Women's Club. Mary enjoyed collecting cardinals and had amassed a very large collection. She also enjoyed cooking and feeding those who came to her home.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Rosalind "Cookie" Carpenter and her husband, Wayne Carpenter, of Pulaski, Va. and Debbie Burke, of Roanoke, Va.; a beloved granddaughter, Amanda Dudley; a sister, Helen Younger and her husband, John Younger, of Indialantic, Fla.; her loving caregivers, Rotunda Mahon, Ruth Newsome, Beverly Sartin, Brenda Smith and Shelia Hensley. Mary is also survived by her loving canine companion, Sissy.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Mary's caregivers and the physicians and staff of the Pikeville Medical Center for their professional and compassionate care.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. until noon, on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church of Williamson. The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation and will begin at noon. The Reverend Tom Schuler will officiate.

Interment is in the Thornsprings Cemetery in Pulaski, VA, at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 1, 2015.
