Roy Cochrane, 86, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., formerly of Huddy, Ky., was born into Heaven on his birthday, December 5, 2015, at Bloom at Hilton Head Assisted Living in Hilton Head.

Born December 5, 1929, in Pike County, Ky., he was a son of the late Hervy and Ellen Smith Cochrane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Reaford, Robert and Roger Cochrane. Roy earned a bachelor's degree in education from Pikeville College and a master's degree from Marshall College. He also attended Ohio State University and Morehead College.

Roy retired from the Pike County Board of Education after 43 years of dedicated service. He served as an English teacher, a guidance counselor at Belfry High School and concluded his career as principal at South Williamson Grade School.

Roy also taught business courses at Marshall University and he worked for Food City for many years as well.

Roy's favorite pastimes included lying on the beach, bicycling and playing tennis. He was a very gifted cook who brought great joy to people sitting around his table.

Roy is sorely missed and will be lovingly remembered always.

A beloved and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Roy is survived by his wife, Helen Carter Cochrane; a daughter, Teria Ellen and her husband, Randy Keathley of Hilton Head Island; a son, David Edward and his wife, Kelli Martin Cochrane of Pooler, Ga., and a grandson, Nathan Edward Cochrane.
