Jaime Calunia Batausa, MD,

Jaime Calunia Batausa, MD, 69, of Williamson, passed away on October 19, 2015, at the Charleston Area Medical Center General Division in Charleston, WV.
Born June 25, 1946, in Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines, he was a son of the late Herminigildo Batausa and Eugenia Calunia Batausa.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by her beloved wife, Fe A. Batausa; and two brothers, Antonio and Florencio Batausa. Dr. Batausa was a 1972 graduate of the Cebu Institute of Medicine where he earned a medical degree. Along with his wife, Fe and young daughter, Lani, he moved to the United States in 1975. He practiced medicine in New York and Pennsylvania before settling in Williamson in 1984.
The Batausa’s set up housekeeping in the West End of Williamson and as luck would have it, just in time to experience the flood of that spring. Their new home was inundated with water. With two small children and a baby on the way, they worked alongside their neighbors to restore their homes and lives. The flood was a rude awakening for the family but they were determined and were soon back on their feet.
Dr. Batausa operated a private medical practice in Williamson for a number of years before he accepted the position of Director of Emergency Medicine at Williamson Memorial Hospital in the late 80’s. He retired from that position in 2008 after developing a number of health complications.
Dr. Batausa was a skilled physician. He was deeply respected by his colleagues and staff members and he was beloved by his patients.
He will long be remembered for his laughter, his sense of humor and his compassionate spirit. He gave joy to all who were for whatever reason blessed to have come to know him. He will be sorely missed.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. His favorite pastimes were reading, listening to music and watching boxing matches.
Survivors include two daughters, Lanizelle (Frank) Crawley of Louisville, KY and Loremli (Chris Whitt) of Williamson; a son, Alexis Batausa of Williamson; a grandson, Frank Crawley, IIII; four sisters, Sylvestra, Cecilia and Adela Batausa and Carmen Lambo all of Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines. He is also survived by a host of friends.
Visitation is from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Thursday evening, October 22, 2015, at Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson. There will be a Rosary Service at 7:00m.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Thomas Chacko as celebrant.
Interment is in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV. Friends will serve as pallbearers.
