Virginia Ann Lipps

Virginia Ann Lipps, a longtime and well known community, civic and church leader of Williamson passed away on October 20, 2015, at the Tug Valley ARH Medical Center in South Williamson, KY, following a lingering illness. She was 89. Born June 19, 1926, at Stone, KY, she was a daughter of the late William May and Laura Phillips May. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard “Bud” Lipps; a brother, James May and his wife, Dixie May and two sisters, Ruth Simpkins and her husband, Archie Simpkins and Jean Lambeth. Ann was an active and devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Williamson where she was involved in numerous ministries of the church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Alter Guild and the director of the Rainbow Choir. She was the church pianist for many years, a church lay speaker and she devoted herself to the operation of the food pantry ministry. Ann was also an active member of the Williamson Women’s Club and the AIM Group. She was the recipient of the 2015 King Coal Festival Community Service Award. Ann lived a truly rich life from which she freely gave of her many gifts and talents. She fully dedicated herself to her family, her faith, her community and her friends. She will sorely missed and lovingly remembered always. Ann is survived by three sons, Bill (Marcie) Lipps of Williamson, Jack “Jay” (Heather) Lipps, MD of Largo, FL and Frank (Bonnie) Lipps of Williamson; ten grandchildren, Benjamin (Becky) Lipps, Mike Lipps, Amanda (Jeffrey) Johnson, Morgan Lipps, Mark Lipps, Nickholas (Sharan) Lipps, Jenny (JJ) Hylton, Michelle Lipps, Evander Lipps and Autumn Lipps; eight great-grandchildren, Liam Clubb, Genevieve Lipps, Will Lipps, Mikie Lipps, Josh Fox, Gage Johnson, Ethan Williamson and Brody Dotson; a brother, Bruce (Joan) May, of Rutland, OH a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Mary Ann Lipps of Barboursville; several nieces and nephews; her beloved canine companion, Jeter, and a host of friends. Visitation is from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Thursday, October 22, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church of Williamson. Funeral services will conducted at the church at 3:00 pm, on Friday. The Reverend Greg Blair will officiate. Interment is in the Hatfield Cemetery in East Williamson. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church, 101 West Second Avenue, Williamson, WV 25661.
