Artist. He was a well known artist in New York. He studied in Provincetown Massachusetts with Hans Hoffman at a summer school where he met Virginia Admiral. They were married in 1942. In 1943 they had their son Robert De Niro Jr. They seperated shortly after his birth. He was a student at Black Mountain College in the 1950's. It was widely known that he was a profectionist who would repaint over his canvases until he felt that his work was perfect. He suffered his entire life with bouts of depression. He was a visiting artist in the early 60's at Michigan State University. He died of cancer at the age of 71.
