TATE Robert O. Sr., Robert O. Tate, Sr., was born on September 22, 1923, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to the union of Samuel Ollie Tate and Dollie Haris Tate. He went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family after a brief illness in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Detroit Avenue facility, on Sunday, January 24, 2010, at the age of 86 years old. He attended Toledo Public Schools and worked as a pipe layer with Busch Construction and several other local construction companies in the Toledo area. Robert was a member of Local 500 for over 60 years. He was also Vice President of Tate Funeral Service where he has faithfully worked side by side with his son for the past twenty five years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was known for his pleasant smile and words of wisdom. He truly adored his children and grandchildren. Anyone who knew him soon began to call him Pops or Granddaddy. He shared a special father image with the funeral home staff and many younger people in the Toledo community. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hattie Tate in September of 2008; his parents; son, Paul Duhart; brother, Luther Tate; granddaughter, Donya Duhart. Robert leaves to cherish his loving memories: his son, Robert O. Tate, Jr.; daughters, Sandra M. Davis and Teresa T. Brown; grandchildren, Mona Smith, Anne-Marie (Wiley) Brown, Rev. Richard O. Brown, III, Justin S. Davis, Kristian (Tirrell) Brenneman, Robert O. Tate, III, Paul Duhart, Jr. and Tim Coates; 12 great-grand children,; 7 great-great-grand children; special friend, Pearl Barber and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Tate Funeral Service, 3302 Lagrange Ave., on Friday, January 29, 2010, from 3-6 pm. Wake services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Greater New Psalmist Church, 3251 Glendale Ave, Toledo, OH, services to follow at 12 noon. Interment will be in Toledo Memorial Park. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio and his special nurse, Suzanne. Memorial tributes can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio in memory of Robert O.
